Accelerating its transition toward sustainable banking, Chinabank has shifted more than 30% of its branch network to clean energy through a milestone 2-megawatt (MW) retail aggregation agreement with AdventEnergy, a subsidiary of AboitizPower.

The partnership stands as one of the largest retail electricity supply collaborations between a major Philippine banking institution and a retail electricity supplier to date.  Under the agreement, 153 Chinabank branches across Metro Manila, Bulacan, Cavite, and Laguna will be powered primarily by renewable energy.

The deal also underscores a broader, unified commitment to strategic energy contracting across the SM Group and its affiliates, extending a long-standing relationship with AdventEnergy.

This strategic sustainability initiative was made possible through the Energy Regulatory Commission’s (ERC) Retail Aggregation Program, which allows institutions to consolidate the power demands of multiple facilities to participate directly in the competitive green energy market.

“In line with our commitment to support the development of renewable energy projects in the country, Chinabank believes that its own operational electricity should be sourced from renewable alternatives whenever possible,” said Chinabank President & Chief Executive Officer Romeo D. Uyan Jr.  “Our partnership with AdventEnergy enables us to secure clean energy, reduce our carbon footprint, and actively build a more sustainable future.”

By locking in this clean energy supply, Chinabank effectively future-proofs its operational financial decisions and establishes robust cost-saving measures amid volatile global fuel markets.

“Just as banks like Chinabank operate around the clock to serve the Filipino public, we are committed to delivering integrated and sustainable energy solutions that are always-on, always reliable, and always ready to meet their needs,” said AdventEnergy Vice President for Retail Energy Sales and Services Catherine Del Villar-Pasilaban.

This strategic move reflects Chinabank’s proactive navigation of the ERC’s customer choice programs, capitalizing on the Phase IV implementation of Retail Competition and Open Access to drive systemic green energy transitions in the banking and finance sector.

This clean energy adoption builds directly on the bank's established sustainability track record. In 2025, Chinabank transitioned its corporate headquarters in Makati City and the historic Binondo Business Center to 100% renewable energy. Orchestrated through a retail supply contract with ACEN Renewable Energy Solutions under the Green Energy Option Program, that phase successfully reduced the bank's indirect greenhouse gas emissions by nearly 20%.
