Chinabank wins Best Brand Program for centennial celebration

Chinabank’s array of programs and activities to commemorate its centennial anniversary in 2020 was recognized by the Bank Marketing Association of the Philippines (BMAP) as the Best Brand Program.

The award was conferred during the 4th Bank Marketing Awards that capped the final day of the Financial Education for Stakeholders Expo 2021 of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) last November 26. Chinabank Marketing Communications Head Mary Ann Ducanes accepted Chinabank’s award and affirmed its commitment to contribute to a progressive and sustainable future.

“On our 100th year, we’re building on Chinabank’s proud history by building a culture of ownership,” said Chairman Hans Sy when he announced to Chinabank Group employees the Centennial Stock Grant Plan of 100 Chinabank shares for every year of service.  The stock grant was ratified at the special stockholders’ meeting on October 1, 2020.  The Bank issued a total of 5,388,400 shares to a total of 8,321 grantees as of September 1, 2021.

For customers, whose trust and support are paramount to the Bank’s success and longevity, Chinabank launched a year-long deposit promo, its “Times Change but Values Remain” advertising campaign which tells of the Bank’s founding and how it continues to be guided by timeless values, and produced special commemorative items, including the Chinabank Centennial Commemorative Stamps issued by the Philippine Postal Corporation.

The centerpiece of the centennial celebration, the Binondo Heritage Restoration project, is the Bank’s contribution to the revitalization of Binondo. Restoring Chinabank’s original head office, built in 1924, to its original architecture and making it more resilient aim to preserve the Bank’s culture and heritage, and more importantly, the bygone character of Binondo for generations to come.  The restored building, which houses the Chinabank Museum, stands proud today as a vestige of Binondo’s heyday as the “Wall Street” of Manila.

Amid the challenges, Chinabank had a remarkable centennial celebration, marked with meaningful gestures of appreciation and goodwill, and underpinned by the Bank’s efforts to serve and support customers, and its continued resilience and strong financial performance.  The Bank achieved its goal of P1 trillion in assets in 2020.

The Bank Marketing Awards, held biennially, recognize outstanding marketing programs in the banking industry, with a special focus this year on programs that put pandemic resiliency at the forefront. The judges’ panel was composed of marketing and communications industry leaders from the BSP, Philippine Marketing Association, Advertising Standards Council, and The Asian Banker.
